Wednesday Nights

You know what’s great about today?

We’re over halfway through the work week!

And it’s Wednesday night, which means that my favorite TV shows are on!

I love Wednesday nights. Nothing celebrates three days of work like a good laugh. And I spend Wednesday nights at Boyfriend’s house (well, his parent’s house). I’ve gotten him hooked on my Wednesday night shows. I can’t get him into Cougar Town, but I really don’t blame him. Out of all the Wednesday night shows on ABC, it’s by far the worst one.

I’ve been obsessed with Modern Family since seeing a preview for it last summer, and The Middle is definitely the most underrated show on TV. It makes the kids from Malcolm in the Middle look normal. I also love Better With You and love seeing similarities of Boyfriend and my sister’s boyfriend in the characters and their relationships. I hope more people stay tuned so it doesn’t get canceled because I would definitely miss it.

I’m not a person to sit and critique TV (well, besides the TV Criticism class I took in college…) and I usually don’t advocate wasting an evening in front of the TV- unless it’s cold and dark out- so right now seems like the perfect time to guiltlessly (yup, made up my own word) enjoy some good TV.

Even better- all the shows are Christmas specials- my favorite!- tonight!

Hope everyone enjoys their Wednesday night!

PS: Send someone a holiday message from Brick from The Middle! (You’ll have to check out the show to find it remotely funny though!)

Bundling Up

Speaking of the weather getting cold, the freezing weather over the weekend made it the perfect time to break out the puppy sweaters.

Boyfriend and I tried to enjoy the weather (ha) and get into the Christmas spirit. We walked through Princeton (pretending we were smart and studious, of course), got coffee and looked at condos we can never afford. Ah, to dream.

Hope everyone had a good weekend and started to get themselves in the holiday spirit!

Politcally Correct Toys

I spent part of my evening last night doing some Christmas shopping with my mom. With some new babies in the family the past few years, Christmas shopping has changed a bit. While looking through toys for something for my two-year-old boy cousin, I came across this:
Zoom in on the farmer...
Hm. I wonder what stereotypes Pop On Pals is trying to enforce?

It's Cold.

It's cold.

I mean, below-freezing-over-night, frost-on-the-windows, down-jacket-scarves-and-gloves cold. The cold that makes it so hard to get up in the morning.

Ah, hello winter.

Although it's not officially here for another few weeks, winter has definitely arrived in New Jersey. The only thing I'm looking forward to is the Winter Solstice, only because each day after stays bright a little bit longer.

I don't like cold weather and I hate the dark. And lucky me, I work about two hours from where I live three days a week. (Hopefully not for much longer, but the process of growing up, starting to pay my bills, saving money, finding an apartment and buying furniture takes some time). After spending a day at a desk in the basement/dungeon/coal mine, I get to spend two hours driving in the dark home. Luckily it's a great first job and my coworkers/fellow miners are wonderful. Regardless, it has left me pretty tired and cold.

If it were socially acceptable to wear Snuggies at work, maybe I'd be a happier person.

Peppermint Mocha

I know I'm a little behind on this, but I finally got to dive into the holiday spirit with one of my favorite splurges, Starbuck's Peppermint Mocha. Nothing tastes like winter and Christmastime quite like one.
Boyfriend spent the weekend at my house and today we did one of my favorite things- found a cute downtown, wandered around and got coffee. I love a good downtown and always dream of living in one. Somewhere to walk and meet friends for coffee. To be able to walk or ride my bike to the gym. Wander around and do some shopping. Walk to the post office.
Ah, maybe someday.

Florida

I love warm weather. Therefore, I love Florida, and it just so happens that one of my best friends, Kate, lives there. I haven't seen her since January and needed a friend and a tan, so I decided that it was time to visit.

I got down on Friday night and was greeting with warm weather. Ah, flip flops. And loads more drinking than my grownup body is used to. But it was really great to see Kate and have someone to talk to and take me to cool places.

Such as City Place in West Palm Beach, where Christmas was in full swing.
Not the easiest to see, but yes, that is snow in Florida. But it's the only good kind of snow- fake snow! I officially love Christmastime in Florida, even if it was before Thanksgiving.
And the view from Anne's Beach in Islamorada was perfect, as was the entire day. Sunshine, cool breeze, cooler full of beer. Absolutely perfect.
As was this perfect beach bar. Frozen drinks and seafood. Heaven.

And quickly I was welcomed back home with cold weather, snow and a cold. Thanks.

Funny Story: Attack of the Pelicans

Funny stories are one of the things that I don't only have problems telling, but I also have trouble writing. I feel that it's not just me; some people are born great oral storytellers, whereas I have to work hard to tell a story without completely butchering it. Writing a funny story is even more of a talent. As I found through creative writing classes, many stories in my head don't come out right when I write them. They come out even less funny than if I tell them aloud. Well, here's another attempt. If it's not funny, I swear, you had to have been there.

The Attack of the Pelicans Story

While in Florida last week, Kate and I went to Robbie's in Islamorada in the Keys. I had a great time and highly recommend it, but with this one warning: beware of the pelicans. While they look cute in Finding Nemo and from across the water, they're not so cute close up.
Anyways, that was definitely not the pelicans we met. At Robbie's, they have these horrendous looking giant fish called tarpons in the water for visitors to feed. You get a bucket of smelly fish, go out on the dock and feed them.

On the dock is full of these. (Please note, no zoom was used.)
Now piece it together. Kate and I with a bucket of fish feeding these ugly fish.
And then they creeped in.
And then we screamed and ran away like the wussy females we are as the manly fishermen had a great laugh at our expense.

And possibly other people, too, as Robbie's has a live webcam on their dock. View it here and hope for more people like us.

My camera ended up on the dock and somehow it didn't fall in and wasn't eaten by those nasty birds that now make seagulls look tame. Luckily, neither were Kate's keys or our wallets, as celebratory drinks were quickly purchased (at about 11 a.m.) in honor of neither of us falling in the water to meet those nasty fish or being bitten by one of those nasty pelicans.
