Things I'll miss when the season changes

I'll miss sitting on my bench watching the surfers as I wake up with the sunshine.
And a big mug of coffee.
I've found that mornings on the beach are the best.
Between 7 and 9, a whole different crowd is out.
The runners, joggers, bikers, dog walkers, surfers, and people like me who are stuck working 9-5.
It's quiet and peaceful and the sun is just amazing and the perfect way to start a work day.

Happy First Day of Summer

Ahh, after a looong winter, it's finally here.

I welcome and thrive upon, in no particular order:
  • Bikinis
  • Tan lines
  • Beach days
  • Concerts
  • Flip flops
  • Sun dresses
  • Iced coffee
  • Popsicles
  • Water ice
  • Watermelon
  • Canonballs
  • Bud Light Lime
  • Landshark
  • BBQs
  • Fireworks
  • Thunderstorms
  • Baseball
And, with all these great things, I'll deal with:
  • Humidity
  • Mosquito bites
  • Thunderstorms (yes, it goes under both)
  • Bennies and shoobies
  • New Yorkers
  • Sunburn
  • Beach badges

Well, that was a dumb idea.

My MDW on the Jersey Shore

What a perfect Memorial Day Weekend. Warm weather. Sunshine. Ocean. Cocktails. Seafood.

And, of course, pretty sunsets, puppies and games.

I really couldn't has asked for too much more.

Yup, no bars, no clubs. And absolutely no fist pumping.

Seven Days of Rain and No Motivation

Ever have one of those days where you just can't get yourself to do anything when you're at home? When you're out, it's all good. But the second you walk through that door, the motivation is left outside? For some reason, I just could not bring myself to open up my laptop after I left the office.

Well, that some reason could have been the long week of rainy weather. The rain came in Saturday afternoon and didn't leave until Friday. Gross. April showers brings May monsoons.

BUT I'll admit that it was worth it. Saturday was, finally, the beach day I have been waiting for since I moved to the beach in February. Sunny skies, cool air made warm by the sun and no breeze. My present for surviving the week:
Winning. Finally.

I got to enjoy my sweet new ride (details to follow) and plop my ass on the beach. Which I did from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. With SPF 8. I know, I know. Far from the smartest idea, but, hell, if they world was coming to an end at 6 p.m., you bet I was gonna get that last tan.

So yeah, I'm still here. A little sunburnt. No regrets, though, because it's cold and cloudy again. I guess I'd be greedy to ask for two nice days in a row.

My Weekend with the Pups

I had one goal this weekend: teach the puppies to hang outside with me without digging up the entire yard while I tanned.

Added plus? Tucker joining me on my lawn chair to enjoy the sun with me. My kind of dog.

And enough sun for Tucker.

Florida

I love warm weather. Therefore, I love Florida, and it just so happens that one of my best friends, Kate, lives there. I haven't seen her since January and needed a friend and a tan, so I decided that it was time to visit.

I got down on Friday night and was greeting with warm weather. Ah, flip flops. And loads more drinking than my grownup body is used to. But it was really great to see Kate and have someone to talk to and take me to cool places.

Such as City Place in West Palm Beach, where Christmas was in full swing.
Not the easiest to see, but yes, that is snow in Florida. But it's the only good kind of snow- fake snow! I officially love Christmastime in Florida, even if it was before Thanksgiving.
And the view from Anne's Beach in Islamorada was perfect, as was the entire day. Sunshine, cool breeze, cooler full of beer. Absolutely perfect.
As was this perfect beach bar. Frozen drinks and seafood. Heaven.

And quickly I was welcomed back home with cold weather, snow and a cold. Thanks.

Sunshine and Warm Weather

One of my small obsessions is the weather. I need to know what it's going to be like outside. I need to know what jacket to bring, what shoes to wear and be warned with how cold I'm going to be. If there's a storm coming, you bet I can tell you how much rain or snow is coming and when it's starting. I almost cross my fingers for the ever-rare Jersey hurricane because I would love to see it and know everything about it. In college, my roommates would ask me before they got dressed in the day how it is outside. It's just one of those few things that I need to know.

So about ten days before a trip, you bet I'm on www.weather.com crossing my fingers for sunshine and warm weather. Last January's trip to Florida brought nothing but rain. South Florida was cold and miserable. The iguanas were literally freezing and dropping out of trees. I went kayaking in Key Largo wearing jeans and a sweatshirt. I didn't get to wear a bikini once. In fact, I bought a tanning package while I was there so I came back tan.

I was the only person wearing flip flops because hell, I was in Florida and it was above freezing, which it wasn't in Jersey at the time. Apparently when the weather is below 60 degrees, South Floridians break out parkas and Uggs.

I'm leaving for Florida tonight and the forecast is looking a bit different.Hello, flip flops, beach days, bikinis and old men! See ya tonight!
